I-485 Document Checklist
Complete checklist of documents needed for your I-485 application. This is a general guide — your specific case may require additional documents.
Personal Documents
- Copy of birth certificate with certified English translation
- Copy of passport (all pages with stamps)
- Two passport-style photos (USCIS specification)
- Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record (sealed envelope from civil surgeon)
- Marriage certificate (if applicable) with certified translation
- Divorce decrees or death certificates for prior spouses (if applicable)
- Certified court disposition for any criminal convictions (if applicable)
Financial Documents
- Form I-864, Affidavit of Support from petitioner/sponsor
- Sponsor's most recent federal tax return
- Sponsor's W-2s or 1099s from the last 3 years
- Sponsor's employment verification letter
- Sponsor's recent pay stubs (last 6 months)
- Bank statements (last 3 months)
- If using assets: proof of assets ownership and value
Relationship Evidence
- Proof of lawful entry (I-94, passport stamp, or advance parole document)
- Proof of relationship to petitioner (photos, communications, joint documents)
- Joint documents: lease/mortgage, bank accounts, insurance, utility bills
- Photos together throughout relationship with dates and locations
- Affidavits from friends and family who know the relationship
- Travel itineraries for trips together
- Proof of communication (call logs, messages, emails)
Additional Forms
- Form I-765 (if applying for work authorization)
- Form I-131 (if applying for advance parole/travel document)
- Form G-1145 (e-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance)
